Four Corners Missions Trip
OUR FIRST UPDATE: GOD IS SO GOOD!
We’ve been here for two days. All the plans that men have made, God has changed. We have served and worshipped at two churches that we had not planned to be at. We visited one church that our driver took us to. It was not “the plan” but he took us there. As we drove up, the people said “We’ve been praying for someone to come.” There were only seven people in the congregation and we rolled in with three teams with 30 some people and worshipped with them. The pastor had not intended to preach that night because he could not print his sermon and he was leaving for a convention. After worship, the Lord led him to deliver a sermon that went right down the line with the testimony of one of the girls from one of the other mission teams about NOT GIVING UP. It was incredible. Our team really stepped out and stepped up. You could see the Lord moving on them. The Spirit was incredible. We started building relationships.
Then we visited a church that had been vandalized and rebuilt twice. There is a remnant in that community that doesn’t want to give up. Every time the gangs vandalize their church, they build again. We will be having a block party in that community Tuesday night in their community of Beclamito.
Yesterday, our teams worked sites, working on rooftops and building a bunk house. Four of the women stayed to prepare for the block party and to work at the school. While working at the school they began to witness to the Navajo maintenance workers and had the privilege of praying with one and inviting him to the service. We are asking the prayer team to pray for him. His name is Gary.
Last night we went to the Chapter House in Red Valley to have our block party but there had been a death in the community and the Chapter House is where they also have their funerals. Instead of turning us away, they called the pastor of another church called “The Lily of the Valley” and we moved to his church. We had our block party in that church. The elderly mother of the pastor got on the phone and called the people in the community to come to the festival. It was incredible how that God worked in the crowd and worked with our team to reach out as people started coming from the community. God had placed in our hearts to perform a skit called “The Lighthouse.” We then found out that there had been 18 teenage suicide deaths in that area in the last year. God used that drama in a powerful way. We were able to hand out Bibles to more than 50 people and witnessed one on one using the Evange-cube and the Chalk Talk. We are building relationships.
Continue to pray tonight, we will be back in Beclamito. Pray for the spiritual warfare. It is so evident as there are gangs trying to destroy the church. But there is this remnant that won’t give up.
BEFORE WE LEFT
The needs of our mission trip to New Mexico are many so the prayer teams support is very important to us. I personally thank you and all of those that will be praying for us. I will try to list the needs and the schedule below.
Pray for us as we the team travels to the airport on Friday and fly to New Mexico on Saturday.
Saturday evening we will be driving more than 150 miles to Tohatchi to meet the team.
Pray for all of the other teams as they travel from Tennessee, as there are 125 people representing 15 churches.
Sunday we will be worshiping at a local church in the morning and teaching the other teams in the evening on how they can help with the Block Party ministry.
On Monday we will be working on 3 construction sites in the morning and then traveling to Red Valley in Arizona in the afternoon to host our first block party from 6 to 8:30pm. Also they have ask if Dale could speak to the Navajo about the dangers of sharing prescription medicines and not taking it as prescribed. Also they want Joie and Marshall to help with the health clinic.
On Tuesday we will be back at our construction sites in the morning and in Bequabetia that afternoon for our block party.
Wednesday in the morning we will be trying to complete our construction early so we can get to Shiprock for our block party. They anticipate 1,000 people at this event!!!
Thursday our block party will be at Tohatchi and this will double as our closing celebration and could have a large crowd.
Friday is a finish up/free day and we will travel back near the airport late in the day.
Saturday we will fly home, but will not be back in Surfside until early in morning on Sunday and ten we will share with the church.
Please pray for spiritual and physical strength for the team.
